Overview

The Curriculum

The curriculum at Hexis College is designed to prepare students for the O, AS and A level courses offered by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Students at Hexis College elect to study in one of three general areas, Arts, Commerce, or Sciences.

O Level

The Cambridge Ordinary Level curriculum enables teaching to be placed in a localised context, making it relevant wherever taught. Students have to elect for at least 9, in any combination, from the 17 Ordinary Level courses offered at Hexis College.

The Cambridge O Level curriculum emphasises broad and balanced study across a wide range of subjects. It develops students’ skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving and is structured so they build practical skills and theoretical knowledge.

Cambridge O Levels develop students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:

  • Subject content
  • Applying knowledge and understanding to familiar and new situations
  • Intellectual enquiry
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to change
  • Working and communicating in English
  • Influencing outcomes
  • Cultural awareness.

AS and A Level

Cambridge Advanced Level curriculum promises Growth and brings Success to learners. Students have to elect for at least 3 and at most 5, in any combination, from the 15 Advanced Level courses offered at Hexis College.

The Cambridge AS and A Level syllabuses prepare learners for university study, which is why universities worldwide value and recognise Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications.

Cambridge International AS & A Level develops learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:

  • In-depth subject content
  • Independent thinking
  • Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
  • Handling and evaluating different types of information source
  • Thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments
  • Making judgements, recommendations and decisions
  • Presenting reasoned explanations, understanding implications and communicating them logically and clearly
  • Working and communicating in English.

Grading System and Attendance

The grading scale at Hexis College is stringent. Growth is the main objective at Hexis, however, high standards are set to encourage the students to strive in their studies, teachers will help the students as far as possible. A student can show their part by maintaining a regular class attendance. In order to remain enrolled in a course, a student must maintain a minimum D average and 90% attendance overall.

Academic Calendar

O Level

Following the first year of study, students appear for at least two subjects in May/June that are Islamiat – 2058 and Pakistan Studies – 2059, students can also appear for more subjects depending on their Mock Examination results held by Hexis College. The remaining combination of subjects is to be taken following their second year of study which can be either of the subjects offered at Hexis College.

AS and A Level

Following their first year of study, students take the AS Level examination of their subject combination in May/June. The A Level is a two year degree, courses are started as Cambridge International AS Level and are extended onto another year for Cambridge International A Levels. Some subjects like Further Mathematics cannot be started in AS Level, they are to be elected during the second year of study commonly known as A2 Level after taking Accelerated Mathematics.

Results are announced in mid August for the examination session May/June and mid January for the examination session Oct/Nov.
